Aedín Uí Mhaoileidig
As Baile Átha Cliath ó dhúchais, A True Dub, táimanois i mo chónaí i Co. na Mí.
Too young to remember, apparently I showed an interest in dancing from an early age by watching ‘Beirt eile’ on television. I began dancing at the age of three, and was very fortunate to be a member of Scoil Rince Inis Ealga.
During my time there, I enjoyed many successes, both in competitive dancing at the top level, and exhibition, travelling to many countries in Europe, performing at various Festivals.
I danced for eleven years with Jury’s Irish Cabaret and travelled the USA and Canada on a coast to coast Cabaret tour, covering 30 States and 90 Cities. A trip to remember!
My success in solo and figure dancing is due to the commitment, dedication and brilliance of Maitiú Ó Maoiléidigh (Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a Anam) and Marie Duffy.
Every year at Oireachtas Na Cruinne I would return home with 5 world medals, including solo, always placing in the first 10, Céilí, Figure and Dance Drama.
I achieved similar success at Oireachtas na hÉireann.
Buíochas libh Matt agus Marie!
Other successes were off stage, in experiences in life, meeting lifelong friends, and,
of course becoming a member of the Ó Maoiléidigh family in marrying Fearghal, the only non-dancer in the family.
We are now living in Co Meath with our three children, (now young adults),
Aoife, Dáire and Ódhran.
I began teaching in Inis Ealga under Matt, and now have opened my own class,
Scoil Rince Mobhí in Dublin and Meath. Some of my dancers are now competing in major competitions, in both solo and figure, and have enjoyed performing at prestigious functions here at home, and at festivals abroad.
Tá mé mar bhaill An Coimisiúin le cúpla bliain anuas, agus faoi láthair mar Cathaoirleach An Choiste Gaeilge.
Go néirí libh go léir, eagraí agus rinceoirí araon in Oireachtas na hÉireann 2010.
