Brian Grant

My parents, both from County Kilkenny, emigrated to Toronto Canada in the 1950's bringing with them a love of Irish music & dance (and of course hurling). I began dancing under the tutelage of my mother Brigid Grant and competed at my first feis at the age of three.

I had a successful competitive career, winning numerous Canadian and North American National titles. I retired from competitive dancing after the World's in Limerick in 1986, having won the World title three times.

I was trained classically on piano and have played piano and accordion for feiseanna including NANs, Great Brits and Worlds since the age of fourteen. In 1989 I earned my TCRG credential and together with my mother celebrated many victories through the years including national and world champions. In 2006 we joined forces with my cousin Rose Fearon as well as Vincent and Kate O'Connor at BFOC.

In 2006 I became a certified ADCRG and since then have adjudicated in the US, New Zealand, Australia, England and Ireland. I graduated from University of Toronto in 1992 with MSc and DDS degrees and I have worked full time since then as a dentist. I am married to a lovely and tolerant woman, Therese Sullivan (Southern California's Rose of Tralee in 1997) and we are blessed with four young children (Liam, Patrick, Eileen and Kate) who all dance and play music.

It is an honor to be adjudicating the 2010 Oireachtas Rince na hEireann and I wish all the dancers, teachers and organizers the very best of luck.
