Marie Connell

Coming from Leicester, a city with no heritage in Irish dancing, I quickly developed “the dancing bug” after attending the Leicester Feis to watch my friend dance back in 1980.

My parents who hail from Galway with an instilled sense of Irish culture encouraged me to attend a dancing class and so I started my dancing career with the infamous Danny Doherty whom I credit with my love for this art form today.

As a painfully shy teenager, I only came into dancing in order to develop my social skills and for a bit of craic really, 30 years on... and still going strong, I am very much involved with Danny in the running of the Doherty Academy (“some would say, a life sentence would have been shorter!!”). I am very proud to be an integral part of the success and achievements of the Doherty Academy.

Having successfully gained my ADCRG Diploma in 1999, I am very lucky to have adjudicated all over the world. This however, is my first opportunity to adjudicate Oireachtas Rince na h’Eireann and I am really looking forward to adjudicating dancers at this exceptional level.

I would like to wish An Coimisiun, the Oireachtas committee, teachers and dancers the very best of luck for this event.
